Mumbai: Veteran Indian actor Vijay Crishna, who has mesmerised audiences with his craft in mainstream cinema and even theatre, passed away at the age of 81. The news of his passing was confirmed on March 3-4. However, the official cause of his death is unknown.
Vijay Crishna’s career
Vijay is best known in Bollywood for his performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 classic Devdas, where he played the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s father. He went to showcase some power-packed performances in Guzaarish, Gandhi and PK. His ability to showcase characters realistically made him an unforgettable performer.
The actor started his acting career in the theatre. For decades, he entertained his viewers with meaningful performances that carried depth. He was particularly praised for his long-standing association with the acclaimed stage production Dance Like a Man, in which his character became a defining part of the play’s legacy.
In addition to being an actor, Vijay has helmed many leadership positions in Godrej family-run enterprises. He retired in 2021. The artist is survived by his wife, Smita Crishna-Godrej, and their daughter, Nyrika Holkar.
