Bangladesh ended their 23-year-wait and registered their first-ever win against Australia Down Under ont he fourth day of the first Test of the series in Darwin.
Bangladesh, who had only managed one win over Australia before the Darwin Test, dominated every session in the fixture to register a famous win. Ricky Ponting has criticised Australia following their defeat and called it “very embarrassing.” Australia were a powerhouse under Ponting’s captaincy and won two back-to-back World Cups in 2003 and 2007. They won 48 out of 77 Tests under his captaincy.
“This ends up being a very embarrassing defeat. I think it’s inevitable they have to make a change. I was on the record at the end of last summer thinking that this was the ideal time to start to regenerate this team because of the performances from some of the players,” Ponting told Channel 7.
“Look, I’m the last one I want to make change. As a captain or as a player, I wanted to keep the group together. It has to get to a bad point before I start saying you ought to leave somebody out,” he added.
The second Test of the series will be played from August 22 to 26 in Mackay. A win for Bangladesh or a drawn game will see them become only the second Asian team after India to register a series in Down Under.
How Bangladesh scripted history in Australia

Asked to bowl first, bowled Australia out for a mere total of 198 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud shone with the ball and took a six-fer. Steve Smith, who scored 71, was the only Australian batter to breach the 50-run mark.
Courtesy of Tanzid Tamim’s century and half-centuries from Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan, they put on a big total of 426 on the board.
Australia only managed a total of 284 in their second innings, thus setting a target of 57. Bangladesh completed the chase at the loss of just one wicket to register their maiden Test win Down Under. They only took three Tests to register their maiden in Australia.
