Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3s Endure Tough Finish At Watkins Glen Six-Hour Race

The Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3s faced challenges during the six-hour race at Watkins Glen International, finishing in ninth and 11th places.

Aaron Telitz and Ben Barnicoat secured ninth in the GTD PRO class with the No. 14 Lexus, while Jack Hawksworth, Parker Thompson, and Frankie Montecalvo ended 11th in the GTD category after a late mishap.

The Lexus RC F GT3s led for 85 laps on the 3.4-mile course. The No. 12 car led for 83 laps, while the No. 14 car took the lead twice. Telitz began fifth in the No. 14 Lexus and maintained a top-five position initially. Barnicoat, returning from injury, advanced to second place before a pit issue caused them to lose a wheel on track.

After stopping on track, the team rejoined eight laps behind, finishing ninth in GTD PRO. Thompson started fifth in the No. 12 Lexus and stayed within the top ten before Montecalvo took over for two stints. A strategic move by Montecalvo saw him climb into the top five before Thompson regained control and led the GTD field.

Hawksworth took over driving duties for the final hours, leading until fuel ran out on the last lap, resulting in an 11th-place finish. The Vasser Sullivan team will next compete at Canadian Tire Motor Park on July 13.

Jack Hawksworth expressed disappointment: “A heartbreaker today… We had an issue there at the end, but we’ll put it behind us and get stronger.” Parker Thompson reflected: “It was a championship day for five hours and 58 minutes… Full focus ahead on the championship.”

Frankie Montecalvo shared his thoughts: “Jack (Hawksworth), Parker (Thompson) and everyone did a good job… It’s a shame we didn’t quite make it with a half a lap to go.” Ben Barnicoat remarked: “First and foremost, it’s just so good to be back… Of course, the end result wasn’t what we wanted.”

Looking Forward to Future Races

Aaron Telitz commented: “It was looking like a really promising day here at the six hours of the Glen… We feel like we’re definitely in good enough form to get some wins.” The team aims to limit mistakes and achieve podium finishes in upcoming races.
