arun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon recreated the iconic dinner table scene from Obsession as they lend their voices to the Hindi-dubbed version of the horror blockbuster ahead of its JioHotstar premiere.
Directed by Curry Barker, the film will stream in both English and Hindi on the platform’s Peacock Hub on October 30.
Varun voices Bear, played by Michael Johnston in the original English version, while Kriti lends her voice to Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette.
Ahead of the release, Varun and Kriti have recreated one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
Set in a restaurant, the scene sees Kriti capture Nikki’s unsettling intensity as Varun recreates the distinctive tone of the original sequence for Indian viewers.
Kriti said: “I absolutely loved the film and the performances in Obsession.
“It’s such a gripping, quirky and twisted story. I’ve never explored a character this edgy before, which made the experience even more exciting and challenging.”
She added that the project marked the first time she had lent her voice to another actor’s performance:
“I had a lot of fun voicing for it and I can’t wait for the audiences to experience the film in Hindi.”
Meanwhile, Varun said working on the Hindi version encouraged him to pay closer attention to the film’s details:
“Working on the Hindi version of Obsession gave me an opportunity to experience the story from a completely different perspective.
“In fact, I found myself enjoying the film even more because I could look at it so closely.”
Obsession follows Bear, a shy young man who uses a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow to make his longtime crush Nikki fall in love with him.
However, his wish takes a disturbing turn when Nikki becomes dangerously obsessed with him, setting off a series of terrifying events.
Reportedly made on a budget of around $750,000, Obsession became a global box office success, grossing more than $500 million worldwide.
Alok Jain, head of Hindi and English entertainment business at JioStar, said casting the two actors would help introduce the film to a wider audience in India:
