‘Varanasi’ shooting nearly complete, Rajamouli reveals when the final schedule will wrap

The highly anticipated Mahesh Babu-S. S. Rajamouli collaboration ‘Varanasi’ is moving closer to completion, with the filmmaker revealing that the majority of the shoot has already been finished.

The film has been the subject of considerable attention since its first glimpse was unveiled, with expectations extending beyond the Indian market. Rajamouli’s international reputation has further increased curiosity around the project.

According to the director, approximately 90 per cent of the filming is now complete. The team is currently working on the final stretch of the shoot, which is expected to conclude by the end of September.

Once filming is completed, Rajamouli plans to move into the post-production phase around October or November. Music composer M. M. Keeravani is also expected to begin work on the film’s background score towards the end of this month.

The production appears to be progressing according to schedule, with ‘Varanasi’ currently locked for a worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027.

Mahesh Babu headlines the project, with Priyanka Chopra in the female lead. Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the principal antagonist.

Given the scale of the film and Rajamouli’s track record of mounting ambitious projects for international audiences, ‘Varanasi’ remains one of the most closely watched Indian films currently in production.
