Vaani Kapoor’s movie Abir Gulaal, starring Fawad Khan, was halted following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year. However, Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3, which co-stars Hania Aamir, was released overseas amid boycott calls. Diljit and Hania play ghost hunters who must exorcise a spirit from a mansion in the United Kingdom in the movie. Recently, Vaani Kapoor defended the Punjabi singer-actor’s stance to release the horror comedy outside India.

Vaani Kapoor talked about how things were different after the shooting of Diljit’s Dosanjh’s Sardaar Ji 3. “I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack, and I am assuming as a producer his money must have been stuck. I guess some 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot,” she said.
Vaani further highlighted that the ‘global star’ Diljit didn’t mean to disrespect the nation. She shared, “I don’t think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star… He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don’t think any laws have been broken, right?”
Sardaar Ji 3 was filmed long before the two nations’ ties soured, the producers and Diljit explained, and the international release was scheduled for June 27. The movie became the highest-grossing Punjabi film of the year and made nearly Rs 50 crore abroad, despite not not being released in India.
