New Delhi: Indian Railways is undergoing one of the most ambitious modernisation programmes in its history, with a special focus on the development of Vande Bharat 4.0 as the government plans to expand the fleet in the domestic market as well export the semi-high speed trains to foreign nations.
Speaking during the inauguration of the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025, Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Wednesday that the Vande Bharat 4.0 will be built as per the world-class technology and passenger comfort will be at the forefront.
“The last 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have seen a strong focus on modernising Indian Railways, and the results are visible. The transformation is phenomenal,” Vaishnaw was quoted by DD News as saying at the event.
Vande Bharat 4.0: Redefining Passenger Comfort
The Railway minister said we need to ensure that Vande Bharat 4.0 is equipped with new technology which should meet the best in the world.
The upgraded Vande Bharat is expected to be rolled out in the next 18 months. It is said to be equipped with improved toilets, luxury seating, and finer coach workmanship.
Giving details about the development of Indian Railways during the BJP rule at the Centre, the Union Railway Minister informed that since 2014, 35,000 kilometres of new railway tracks have been laid and 46,000 kilometres electrified.
In the last 11 years, emphasis was also on expanding the fleet of modern trains. At present, 156 Vande Bharat Express, 30 Amrit Bharat Express, and four Namo Bharat are in service.
In the future, the government is planning to build around 7,000 kilometres of dedicated passenger corridors by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat vision.
