Story of Vamana Avatar

According to the legend of Vamana Avatar, King Bali in the Satyuga had occupied the three worlds on the strength of his power and tenacity, causing a tragedy in Devaloka. King Bali Devraj was harassing the gods including Indra. Devraj Indra prayed to Lord Vishnu to get rid of this crisis. Then Lord Vishnu was born from the womb of God Mata Aditi as a Brahmin child, Vamana. It was the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu in human form.

The Asura Raj Bali, famous for his charity and commitment, performed a yajna, in which Vamana also arrived. Vamana Avatar asked King Bali in donation of three steps. Shukracharya, the Guru of Bali, recognized Lord Vishnu as Vamana and refused to donate this donation to Bali, because it would take away everything of King Bali.

King Bali ignored the Guru and resolved to donate three steps to fulfill the word of his donation. After taking the resolution, Vamana Dev took a huge form. Then he measured the entire earth with his first step and the heaven with the second step. Now there was no place left for the third step, then Vamana asked where to keep the third step? King Bali asked to set foot on his head with ego and commitment. When Vamana Dev placed his third leg on Bali’s head, Bali reached Hades.

Pleased with the charity of King Bali, Lord Vishnu made him the king of Hades. In this way, Devraj Indra got his heaven back and the pride of the sacrifice was also crushed. Lord Vamana of Vamana Jayanti is specially worshiped, so that devotees can get the grace and blessings of Vishnu.
