Vaibhav Suryavanshi takes another big leap in his incredible career with Bihar vice-captaincy

New Delhi: The 14-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, added another feather to his glittering career as he was named Bihar’s vice-captain for the first two matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, starting Wednesday. Sakibul Gani and Co. will face Arunachal Pradesh in their Plate League season-opener at the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium. The announcement came late on Sunday after the Bihar Cricket Association revealed the squad.

Bihar were relegated to the Plate League after they failed to register a single win last season. They managed to earn just one point in seven games, losing six of them outright to be relegated. Bihar competes in the Plate League and will begin their campaign against Arunachal Pradesh in Patna before facing Manipur in Nadiad on October 25.

Vaibhav is unlikely to play the entire Ranji Trophy season but he will be in contention for the U19 World Cup early in 2026.

Suryavanshi’s performance

Suryavanshi made his debut in the 2023–24 season when he was just 12 years old. Vaibhav’s elevation came after his excellent performances first in IPL, then his 78-ball ton during the U-19 tour of Australia. He even finished as India’s second leading run scorer with 133 runs in the multi-day series, which the Men In Blue won 2-0.

Not just that, earlier this year he also grabbed global attention during the England tour when he scored 143 runs in 78 balls marking the fastest century in Youth ODIs. During that five match series, he amassed 355 runs and signed off as the highest run-scorer of the series. Antoehr record he smashed was ehen he became the youngest centurion in the T20 cricket when he hit 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.

He has played 12 games since his debut in 2024, scoring a total of just 100 runs but since then his game has improved and with runs behind him, he is projected to do better in future games.
