In a groundbreaking moment in IPL history, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19, 2025.
At just 14 years and 23 days, he became the youngest player ever to feature in the Indian Premier League, surpassing the previous record held by Prayas Ray Barman, who debuted at 16 in 2019.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Born in Tajpur, located in Bihar’s Samastipur district, Suryavanshi began his cricketing journey at the age of nine under his father’s coaching. His talent quickly stood out. At 12, he represented Bihar in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and soon after, made his Ranji Trophy debut – becoming the second youngest to represent Bihar in the domestic circuit.
He continued to make waves in youth cricket, most notably scoring a 58-ball century against Australia Under-19s in 2024 – the fastest ever by an Indian in youth Test cricket. His performances earned him a lucrative IPL contract worth ₹1.1 crore from Rajasthan Royals during the 2025 auction, making him the youngest player to sign with a franchise in the league’s history.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi hits Six off First ball
Suryavanshi was handed his debut during the clash between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur, stepping in as an Impact Player in place of regular captain Sanju Samson, who was sidelined due to injury.
And on the very first ball of his batting, the southpaw hit a massive six. He cleared his front leg and hit a maximum off Shardul Thakur over long off, as the stadium went berserk. He also clubbed Avesh Khan for a maximum in his first ball as well.

‘I am still trying to get over the shot. That was a brute of a shot,” a commentator said.
“He has got no fear whatsoever. Goodness me. Normally you gives yourself a couple of balls. But this man! Wowie,” a stunned Shane Watson was heard saying as well.
