Uttarayan also has scientific importance. According to him, after the Sun enters Capricorn i.e. as soon as Uttarayan starts, the days start becoming longer and the nights become shorter. As the days become longer, the sun’s rays remain on the earth for a longer period, which helps crops ripen and creates conditions for rain. Understanding this importance, our sages started the tradition of celebrating Uttarayan festival.
