Uttarakhand Weather: Light Rain, snowfall predicted in five districts including Chamoli, Uttarkashi; plains remain dry

Dehradun: Uttarakhand is currently experiencing two different weather conditions at the same time. The plains, including Dehradun, are enjoying bright sunshine and dry weather, while the mountainous regions are facing rain and snowfall, leading to a drop in temperatures. According to the Meteorological Center, this pattern will continue until March 27.

The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate showers in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh today. These showers will be accompanied by thunder and lightning, which could further intensify the cold in these areas. For the past few days, rain has been continuing in the mountains, creating a chilly atmosphere. Evening showers were also reported in Mussoorie and Dhanaulti, which brought down the temperature further.

Snowfall in Higher Altitudes

The weather office has also forecast light snowfall in areas above 3,300 meters. This means higher regions of Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Pithoragarh are likely to remain cold. The snowfall will add to the winter-like chill in these districts, even as the plains move towards summer-like conditions.

Dry Weather in Dehradun

In contrast, Dehradun and other plain districts are experiencing dry weather. On Tuesday, Dehradun saw bright sunshine from morning, though light winds kept the heat from becoming uncomfortable. A slight chill was felt in the morning and evening, but overall, the weather remained pleasant. Today, partly cloudy skies are expected in Dehradun, but there is no chance of rain.

Rising Temperatures in Plains

Meteorologists say that temperatures in the plains may rise due to the strong sunshine. The daytime heat will increase, while mornings and evenings will remain relatively cool. This dual effect of weather is typical during the transition from winter to summer in Uttarakhand.

Weather Pattern Till March 27

Experts have confirmed that this mixed weather will continue across Uttarakhand until March 27. Rain and snowfall will dominate the mountains, while the plains will remain dry and sunny. This variation is due to western disturbances, which often bring rain and snow to the Himalayan region while leaving the plains warmer.

Impact on Daily Life

For residents of the mountains, the continuing rain and snowfall mean colder days and nights, with possible disruptions in travel. In the plains, however, people are experiencing pleasant weather, with sunshine during the day and mild chill in the evenings. Tourists visiting hill stations like Mussoorie and Nainital are advised to carry warm clothes, while those in Dehradun can enjoy the sunny weather.

Uttarakhand’s weather today reflects the state’s diverse geography. While the plains are warming up under the sun, the mountains remain cold with rain and snowfall. This dual weather pattern will continue until March 27, reminding everyone of the unique climate contrasts in the Himalayan region.
