Uttarakhand Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts in Uttarakhand.
The rain is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms between August 10 and August 14.
As per the weather department, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat districts of Uttarakhand.
The IMD has issued an orange alert as a warning of extremely bad weather with the potential of disruption in the commute with road and rail closures, and interruption of power supply.
Uttarkashi, which was hit by flash floods on Tuesday is also likely to receive very heavy showerers between Monday to Thursday. Moreover, a yellow alert is issued to warn citizens of severe weather that will persist across several days. The yellow alert also suggests that the weather could deteriorate, causing disruption in day-to-day activities.
Meanwhile, the recue operation continues in the Uttarkashi district’s Dharali and Harshil. By 11 am on Sunday, 20 people were rescued safely at Matli helipad, and were sent to their destination after providing first aid.
Speaking about the rescue efforts, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “All teams are coordinated in the rescue operations and efforts are underway to rescue all those affected by the disaster. The locals are being rescued by the helicopter services…Electricity and telephone services have been restored in all the affected areas. Relief material is being provided. We have given immediate relief by providing Rs 5 lakh.”
“The road services will be resumed from Tuesday to Wednesday…A committee has been constituted to assess the damage caused by the disaster so that relief can be provided to the affected people…This committee will visit Dharali to inspect the situation, and we are also in touch with various organisations that will provide us with information regarding why these disasters like cloud bursts are happening over the years, so that we can be prepared for them,” he added.
