Bageshwar: A heart-wrenching incident has shaken Uttarakhand’s Bageshwar district. In Jaisar village under Baijnath police station, a 21-day-old newborn girl was allegedly killed by her own mother.
The case has sparked outrage and fear in the community, with police now investigating the chilling motive behind the crime.
Mother twisted the baby’s neck
According to reports, the baby’s grandparents (in-laws of the accused woman) filed a complaint against their daughter-in-law, accusing her of strangling the infant. They claimed that the mother twisted the baby’s neck, leading to her death. The father of the child is currently abroad, leaving the family situation tense and complicated.
Case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after receiving the complaint. The accused woman, identified as Deepa Devi, has also filed counter-allegations against her in-laws, claiming harassment and mistreatment. This has turned the case into a bitter family dispute, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives.
Authorities are examining both medical evidence and family testimonies
Initial investigations revealed shocking details. The baby, named Bhumi, was reportedly brought to the local community health center after her condition worsened. Doctors declared her dead upon arrival. While the mother claimed the child’s health had suddenly deteriorated, the in-laws insisted it was a deliberate act of murder.
Police officials, including Kotwal Kailash Singh Bisht, confirmed that the case has been registered and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are examining both medical evidence and family testimonies to determine the truth.
