Jagran Team, Pithoragarh: The Tawaghat-Lipulekh road on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route remained closed on Tuesday due to rock cracking near Najyang, about 54 km from Dharchula.
Meanwhile, the Munsiyari-Milam road near the China border was closed near Bogdiyar for the second day. These closures have cut off connectivity to 20 high-altitude villages. In total, 16 rural roads in the district are blocked, affecting over 100,000 residents.
Heavy Rains Block Kailash Mansarovar Route; Vehicles Forced To Turn Back
Continuous rain across the border district caused widespread disruptions on Monday. While the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) reopened the Tanakpur-Tawaghat highway near Tawaghat, restoring connectivity to the high-altitude Darma Valley, the road near vehicles on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route remained closed throughout the day, stranding traffic between Dharchula and Gunji.
Due to the closure, most vehicles travelling to Gunji were forced to turn back, including heavy trucks carrying cement for ongoing construction work. A few vehicles remained parked on both sides until 6:30 PM, waiting for the route to reopen. Conditions worsened later in the evening when a massive rock cracked near Najyang, forcing another closure, Jagran.com reported.
Meanwhile, authorities reopened three of the 22 roads blocked earlier in the morning, including the Thal-Munsyari State Highway.
Bridge Connecting Nanda Devi Base Camp Washed Away
Communication remained cut off for the second consecutive day after the bridge connecting Nanda Devi Base Camp and Lwan in Malla Johar, near the China border, was washed away. Trekkers heading to Nanda Devi Base Camp reach the base camp via this route.
In response, the tehsil administration dispatched a rescue team to the site. Speaking to Jagran.com, officials stated that a temporary culvert will be constructed shortly to restore access.
