A provision of Rs 2,104 crore has been made to promote green energy in Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27. The government has set a target of producing 22,000 MW under solar, bio energy and green hydrogen. PM Kusum and Solar City scheme will also get momentum.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said in the budget speech for the financial year 2026-27 that the Yogi government is working rapidly to make Uttar Pradesh a leading state in the field of green and clean energy. A provision of about Rs 2,104 crore has been proposed for the development of additional energy sources. This amount is more than double that of the previous financial year 2025-26. This step reflects the government’s commitment towards energy security, environment protection and sustainable development of the state.

22,000 MW production target: Emphasis on Solar, Bio Energy and Green Hydrogen

Under Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy-2022, State Bio-Energy Policy-2022 and Green Hydrogen Policy-2024, an ambitious target of producing 22,000 MW electricity in the next five years has been set. Through this goal, the state is moving towards becoming a self-reliant energy state by reducing dependence on traditional energy sources.

2,815 MW solar power capacity installed

So far, 2,815 MW solar energy projects have been installed in the state. This achievement shows that the government is not only formulating policies but also implementing them effectively.

PM Kusum and Suryaghar Yojana: Provision of Rs 1,500 crore

PM Kusum and Suryaghar Yojana are being implemented rapidly in the state. A provision of Rs 1,500 crore has been made for these schemes in the budget. Through these schemes, farmers and domestic consumers are being encouraged to adopt solar energy, so that they can become self-reliant in terms of energy.

17 municipal corporations will become solar cities, 5.20 lakh solar street lights

17 municipal corporations including Ayodhya and Mathura are being developed as solar cities. Its objective is to strengthen solar energy based infrastructure in urban areas. So far 5.20 lakh solar street light plants have been installed in rural areas. Along with saving energy, this has also improved the security and facilities in the villages.

Uttar Pradesh is leading in the country in bio energy.

Under the Uttar Pradesh State Bio-Energy Policy-2022, 36 CBG (Compressed Biogas) plants have been established in the state. This number is the highest in the country. This has promoted waste management and also increased the production of clean fuel.

Green Hydrogen Policy-2024: Two Centers of Excellence approved

Uttar Pradesh has also taken important initiatives in the field of green hydrogen. Under the Green Hydrogen Policy-2024, approval has been given to establish two centers of excellence in the state. This initiative will promote research, innovation and industrial use of future clean energy technologies.
