Taking a big digital decision, Indian Railways has closed the UTS app from March 1, 2026. Now facilities like unreserved ticket, platform ticket and season pass will be available only through the new RailOne Super App. This change will directly affect millions of passengers, especially those who travel by local trains daily. Railways says that now there will be only one app, facility for every work will be available.
Till now railway passengers had to use different apps for different purposes. IRCTC for reserved tickets, UTS for unreserved tickets. This caused problems to many people, especially the elderly and new users. CRIS, the IT branch of Railways, said that for the convenience of passengers, it was decided to bring all the services on one platform. Under this thinking, RailOne app was promoted and UTS app was discontinued.
What is RailOne App and what is available in it?
RailOne is a new super app, which was launched by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in July 2025. This app is available on both Android and iOS. In this app, you will now get additional facilities like unreserved tickets, platform tickets, season passes as well as reserved ticket booking, live tracking of trains and ordering food. This means that now the entire railway journey can be managed from one place. Up to 3% discount is also being given on making digital payment, which will give some financial benefit to the passengers. Railways claims that this will increase transparency, save time and get rid of long lines at the counter.
What will be the money of R-Wallet?
After the closure of UTS app, people were most worried about their R-Wallet balance. But Railways has made it clear that no one’s money will get stuck. UTS balance will be automatically transferred to RailOne app. For this, you will have to download the new app and login with the same mobile number and R-Wallet ID that you were using earlier. It may take 24 to 48 hours for the balance to be transferred. If any problem arises, the railway helpline 139 can be contacted or a complaint can be lodged in the support section of the app. If needed, refund can also be taken, for which bank details will have to be added.
What will be the impact on daily commuters?
In cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata, lakhs of people travel by local trains every day. This change is very important for them. Earlier it was easy to get season tickets from UTS app, now the same facility will be available in RailOne.
Passengers who already have season tickets will also automatically appear in the new app. However, some technical difficulties may arise in the initial days, especially during peak times. In rural areas where there is internet problem, passengers may face some problems, but Railways has continued the facility of QR code scanning at the station.
Big step towards digital railway
This step of Railways is part of its digital plan. Earlier many facilities were limited to station counters only, but now efforts are being made to make everything easier on mobile. The change may seem a bit uncomfortable in the beginning, but in the long run it may prove beneficial for the passengers. If you also travel by train daily, then it is better to immediately download the RailOne app and understand the new system.
