Utpanna Ekadashi fasting story (Utpanna Ekadashi ki Vrat Katha)
According to the mythological story related to the birth of Utpanna Ekadashi Mata, in Satyayuga there was a powerful demon named Mur, who had conquered the gods with the strength of his power. Troubled by the demon Mur, all the gods including Devraj Indra sought help from Lord Vishnu and Vishnu assured to kill Mur.
When Lord Vishnu went to Hemavati cave to rest after the battle with Mur, the demon Mur tried to attack him. At the same time, a divine and beautiful girl (Ekadashi Devi) appeared from the body of Lord Vishnu and killed the demon Mur.
When Lord Vishnu saw this girl, he asked who she was. Then the girl told that she was born from the light of his own body. Pleased with Goddess Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu named her Ekadashi and gave a boon that whoever observes her fast on this date, all his sins will be destroyed and he will attain Vaikuntha Dham.
