Utpanna Ekadashi fasting rules: Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month (Agahan) is known as Utpana Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, on this day Ekadashi Mata was born, who appeared from the body of Lord Vishnu and killed the demon named Moor. Therefore this fast has special significance. According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of Margashirsha month will start on Saturday, November 15 at 12:49 am. This date will end on Sunday, November 16 at 2:37 am. In such a situation, according to Udayatithi, the fast of Utpanna Ekadashi will be observed on 15th November, Saturday.
Utpana Ekadashi What to do on this day?
The fast resolution should remain satvik from the night of Dashami itself. On the day of Ekadashi, wake up early in the morning, take bath and take a resolution to fast.
Worship of Lord Vishnu: Worship Lord Vishnu and Ekadashi Mata duly. Be sure to use Panchamrit, sandalwood, Akshat, fruits, flowers, incense, lamp and Tulsi Dal in worship.
Keep chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay” during the worship. Reciting Vishnu Sahastranam is also considered very auspicious.
Offer only fruits to Lord Vishnu. Mixing basil leaves in kheer and offering it is auspicious. Do not offer food (rice) at all.
Night vigil: Do night vigil with bhajan-kirtan and story recitation of Lord Vishnu.
Give priority to charity and charitable works on this day. Donate food, clothes or dakshina to the poor as per your capacity.
Break the Paran fast only after sunrise on the next day (Dwadashi Tithi). Before Parana, feed food to a Brahmin or any needy person and give Dakshina.
What not to do on the day of Utpanna Ekadashi?
Consumption of food and rice: Consumption of food and rice is completely prohibited on the day of Ekadashi. Even those who are not fasting should not eat rice.
Tamasic food: Do not consume meat, alcohol, onion, garlic and other tamasic food on this day.
Plucking Tulsi: Do not pluck basil leaves at all on the day of Kadashi. For puja, pluck basil leaves a day in advance and keep them aside. Even water is not offered to Tulsi on this day, because Ekadashi Mata also observes Nirjala fast.
Criticism and abuses: Avoid criticizing, criticizing or abusing anyone. Don’t behave badly with anyone.
Celibacy should be followed completely on the day of Ekadashi.
Cutting of trees and plants: On this auspicious day, plucking leaves from trees or harming any tree or plant is considered prohibited.
