National Payments Corporation of India
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made major changes in the UPI Autopay system. Now users will be able to see all their active autopay payments (mandates) on any UPI app. Be it on Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm. With this change, users will now have complete control over the UPI payment app and they will get complete information about all the auto payments being deducted simultaneously. Let us know about this big change of NPCI.
What is the new rule?
NPCI has released a new framework under which users will be able to view and manage all their ongoing UPI autopay mandates (ie payments that are automatically deducted every month like OTT subscription, mobile bill or EMI) from any app. This means that if some of your autopay payments are on Google Pay and some on PhonePe, you can view both in one app. Apart from this, users will now be able to transfer (port) their mandates from one app to another if they wish.
Changes for businessmen too
Now merchants will also be able to run UPI Autopay mandates through their preferred Payment Service Provider (PSP). NPCI has said in the circular dated October 7, 2025 that all banks and UPI apps will have to implement this new system by December 31, 2025.
What is the benefit for users?
After this change, the user will know which regular payments are being made automatically through UPI. This will make it easier to do better money planning and budget management.
What instructions did NPCI give?
NPCI has asked banks and UPI apps to create a Manage Bank Accounts or UPI Autopay section in their apps, where users can see all their autopay mandates and transfer them to other apps if they wish. Also, NPCI has made it clear that no app should lure the user by giving cashback, offer or notification to port it. Mandated porting should happen only at the request of the user.
New security feature also arrived
NPCI said in another circular that now the facility of face authentication (Face ID) and biometric authentication (fingerprint etc.) will be available to set or reset the UPI PIN. This on-device biometric verification will currently be applicable for transactions up to ₹5,000, which can be increased later. Overall, this change is going to bring more transparency, security and convenience for UPI users.
