Several parts of Fort Stewart were placed under lockdown on Wednesday after reports of an active shooter incident on the base, reported AP, citing military sources. Fort Stewart, in a Facebook post stated that causalities have been reported; however, it did not confirm whether anyone was killed or not. It further advised the residents to limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
“Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing,” the post stated. “Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership,” the base instructed. Apart from this, Lt. Col. Angel Tomko stated that it is not confirmed yet that anyone sustained injuries.
“The Appling County School System is aware of an ongoing active shooter situation at Fort Stewart. Out of an abundance of caution and in alignment with our commitment to student and staff safety, all Appling County Schools are currently in a Level 1 lockdown,” the Hindustan Times reported, citing the website.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in communication with local law enforcement. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” it added.
“In response to the active shooter incident on Fort Stewart, the following Liberty County Schools have been placed on a soft lockdown out of an abundance of caution: Button Gwinnett Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary, Snelson Golden Middle School,” Liberty County Schools stated.
