US Ambassador Sergio Gor enjoys auto ride, masala dosa in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor lauded Bengaluru’s dynamic atmosphere during his recent visit, calling the city’s energy “unmatched”. Soon after landing in the city, the envoy shared a picture on X of himself enjoying a masala  dosa with Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

“Just arrived in Bengaluru! From startups to street food, Bengaluru’s energy is unmatched! Thank you to my great host @Tejasvi_Surya,” Gor wrote, capturing the spirit of his visit.

Surya also posted about the meeting, describing it as engaging. He said the two leaders met over masala dosa and strong coffee at Filter Coffee in Indiranagar, where they discussed the deepening India-US partnership.

According to Surya, the conversation focused on trade, technology and innovation, particularly in the context of the interim trade agreement between the two countries. He also introduced the Ambassador to “Namma Auto”, adding that it made for a memorable ride.

In another post, Surya underlined Bengaluru’s distinctive identity and its strategic importance in strengthening ties between India and the United States. He described the city as a place that seamlessly blends tradition and technology, symbolised by the journey “from masala dosa to machine learning”. Surya noted that Bengaluru plays a central role in economic and people-to-people connections between the two democracies. He highlighted that the city hosts over 700 American companies and accounts for 43 per cent of India’s software exports. Additionally, around 40 per cent of India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are based in Bengaluru, reinforcing its position as a major innovation hub.

Before taking up his post in New Delhi, Ambassador Gor served as Assistant to the President and Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House. His career also includes work with the Republican National Committee, Americans for Limited Government and on Capitol Hill. A graduate of The George Washington University, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Affairs in 2008.
