The UPSC conducts several examinations to select officers for the government of India. Prominent among them is the civil services examination, conducted annually to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

UPSC is celebrating 100 years of establishment, i.e. the centenary year. The Public Service Commission was established on October 1, 1926, following the Government of India Act, 1919, and the Lee Commission recommendations. It was later known as the Federal Public Service Commission (1937) and was renamed the Union Public Service Commission upon the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950.

The year-long celebration will run from October 1, 2025, to October 1, 2026. As a part of this celebration, UPSC is also celebrating a CoE to act as a central repository of best practices for UPSC and State Public Service Commissions (PSCs).
