Muzaffarnagar: Two sisters, aged 16 and 32, have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district for allegedly killing their 60-year-old father while he was asleep at their village home. Police said the accused had been planning the murder for several days.

According to investigators, the incident took place on Sunday night. The sisters allegedly mixed sedatives into the dinner served to other family members, including their mother, to ensure they remained asleep. When their father went to bed, the younger daughter is said to have restrained his legs while the elder sister slit his throat with a kitchen knife.

The man’s body was discovered in a pool of blood early on Monday morning. Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Sisters confess

Officers detained the two women within hours of beginning the probe. During questioning, they confessed to the crime. A case has been registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bhopa police station and both accused have been remanded in judicial custody.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aditya Bansal said the sisters claimed they were deeply upset by their father’s behaviour. They alleged he discriminated between his son and daughters and frequently taunted them for being unmarried, staying at home and not working.

Police said two strips of sleeping pills and the murder weapon were recovered during the investigation. Blood-stained clothes of the elder sister were also found hidden in a pile of fodder.
