UP PM Surya Ghar Yojana: UP ranks second in PM Surya Ghar Yojana, pace in solar installation. Uttar Pradesh Pm Surya Ghar Yojana Update Solar Rooftop Installation Top State Up Maharashtra Gujarat

Uttar Pradesh stood second in the country in solar installations between August 2025 and January 2026 under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Energy self-reliance has been promoted by increased monthly installations of rooftop solar and DBT subsidy.

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has made a big achievement in the direction of energy self-sufficiency. Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, the state stood second in the country in solar plant installation between August 2025 and January 2026. The monthly installation of domestic rooftop solar plants witnessed a steady growth during this period. Maximum number of rooftop solar plants were installed in major districts like Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, Bareilly, Prayagraj, Agra, Jhansi, Rae Bareli, Shahjahanpur and Saharanpur. This shows the increasing awareness and acceptance of solar energy in the state.

Competing with Maharashtra, leaving Gujarat behind

During this period, Uttar Pradesh competed with Maharashtra and Gujarat. Uttar Pradesh has made a strong place among the top two states, leaving behind Gujarat, which has been a leader in solar energy for a long time. According to UPNEDA Director Inderjeet Singh, this achievement is the result of effective solar policy of the state government, district-wise monitoring and time-bound target setting. Uttar Pradesh currently ranks third in terms of total rooftop solar installations in the country, while the state ranks second in the number of applications received under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana.

Number of domestic solar connections increasing every month

A steady increase in domestic solar connections was recorded every month between August 2025 and January 2026. Simplification of online application process, direct transfer of subsidy to consumers’ accounts through DBT and quick approval system at the DISCOM level have given momentum to the scheme. Rising electricity bills and awareness towards environmental protection have also motivated people to adopt rooftop solar. The positive impact of this scheme is clearly visible in both rural and urban areas.

Big step towards energy self-sufficiency and green development

Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana aims to install rooftop solar plants on one crore houses in the country, so that every family can get clean and free energy. With the success of this scheme in a big state like Uttar Pradesh, consumers are getting financial relief and the energy self-reliance of the state is being strengthened. Increasing use of solar energy will reduce pressure on traditional power generation and reduce carbon emissions.

Uttar Pradesh moving rapidly towards first place

Energy experts believe that if this pace continues, Uttar Pradesh can soon achieve the first position in the country. Remaining in the top two states for the last seven months is a big achievement for the state. The increasing trend of adopting domestic solar is taking the state strongly towards green energy, economic savings and energy self-reliance.
