There has been a huge improvement in the condition of farmers of UP in the 9 years of Yogi government. Loan waiver, MSP payment, crop insurance, Kisan Samman Nidhi and agricultural schemes have increased the income of farmers and the state has become the leader in the country in agricultural production.
Lucknow. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a big change has been seen in the condition of farmers in Uttar Pradesh. Where before the year 2017, the farmer was struggling with debt and financial crisis, now he is debt free and producing with respect. In the very first decisions of the government, priority was given to loan waiver of farmers, due to which more than 86 lakh farmers got direct benefits.
Big jump in agricultural growth rate, UP becomes fastest growing state
The effect of strengthening farmers has also been visible on the agricultural growth rate.
- Agriculture growth rate in 2016-17: 8.5%
- Increase in 2025-26: 18%
Uttar Pradesh accounts for about 11% of the country’s total cultivable land, but contributes 21% to food grain production. This makes the state a leader in the agriculture sector.
Extension of schemes for farmers: Insurance, subsidy and free electricity
Several schemes were implemented for farmers in the last 9 years:
- Compensation of Rs 5660.33 crore to 353.14 lakh farmers under Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme
- 86,128 solar pumps installed under PM Kusum Yojana
- 437.68 lakh Kisan Credit Cards distributed (by 2024-25)
- 70.36 lakh new KCCs issued till February in 2025-26
Apart from this, there has also been a continuous increase in crop loan distribution.
Purchase on MSP and payment in 48 hours, big relief to farmers
Many crops including paddy, wheat, oilseeds, pulses, millet, maize are being purchased in the state at Minimum Support Price (MSP). In 2025-26:
- Purchase of 62.30 lakh metric tons of paddy from 10.53 lakh farmers
- Payment of approximately Rs 15,000 crore
- Payment through DBT within 48 hours
This eliminated the role of middlemen and farmers got money on time.
Effect of double engine government: increase in GSDP and agriculture
The GSDP of agriculture and allied sector was Rs 2.96 lakh crore in 2016-17, which increased to Rs 6.95 lakh crore in 2024-25. 76% of the state’s land is being used in agriculture, which shows the strength of agriculture.
‘Lab to Land’ campaign: Scientists reach out to farmers
Krishi Sankalp campaign was launched for the first time in 2025, in which direct communication was done with 23.30 lakh farmers in 14,170 villages. Under this campaign, scientists reached the fields directly and farmers were given information about modern technology.
Loan at low interest: Relief to small and marginal farmers
Under the Chief Minister Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, now farmers will get loan from UP Cooperative Gram Vikas Bank at only 6% interest rate. Earlier this rate was 11.50%, which has been reduced and huge relief has been given to the farmers.
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi: Farmers of UP benefit the most
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, so far Rs 99,003.69 crore has been sent to the farmers of Uttar Pradesh in 22 installments. About 23% of the total beneficiaries in the country are farmers from UP.
- Government’s focus on seeds, fertilizers and agricultural equipment
- 556.09 lakh quintal seeds distributed in 9 years
- Distribution of oilseeds and pulses minikits
- 840.97 lakh metric tons fertilizer distribution
- More than 2.31 lakh agricultural equipment were given
Apart from this, 8405 custom hiring centers and 7351 farm machinery banks were established.
Preparation of Seed Park, Tissue Culture Lab and Training Center
- Seed park worth Rs 251 crore in Lucknow’s Attari
- Tissue Culture Lab in Barabanki
- Basmati Seed Production and Training Center in Pilibhit
This will provide farmers with modern technology and opportunities for better production.
UP number-1 in milk production, promotion of animal husbandry
Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country in milk production:
- 388.15 lakh metric tons production in 2024-25
- 16.2% contribution to total national production
Under Nand Baba Milk Mission, the target is to double the production by 2030.
Record payment to sugarcane farmers and increase in production
- Payment of Rs 3.16 lakh crore in 9 years after 2017
- Sugarcane price increased from Rs 300 to Rs 400 per quintal.
- Ethanol production increased from 42 crore liters to 188 crore liters
UP’s contribution in sugarcane production is 57.26% and the production capacity has also increased.
UP tops the country in agricultural production
Uttar Pradesh ranks top in the country in the production of sugarcane, sugar, food grains, mango, milk, potato, peas, mentha, honey and ethanol. The state also ranks first in fruit and vegetable production with a production of 400 lakh tonnes.
