Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that to deal with the increasing non-communicable diseases, not only treatment but also prevention and awareness is necessary. Along with expansion of health facilities, the government is also emphasizing on lifestyle improvement.

Lucknow. Amidst the rapidly changing lifestyle and the increasing threat of Non-Communicable Diseases, the need is now being felt to give equal priority to not only treatment but also prevention in health policy. Taking this thinking forward, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that to keep the country healthy and productive for a long time, we will have to move beyond the treatment-centric model and adopt an awareness and better lifestyle based model.

He said these things in the conference ‘NIC-2026’ of Cardiological Society of India organized at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University.

Balance of ‘prevention and treatment’ is necessary in health system

The Chief Minister said that on one hand the government is strengthening the health infrastructure and providing affordable medical facilities, while on the other hand emphasis is also being laid on the strategy of prevention of diseases. According to him, this balance of strong treatment system and widespread awareness campaign will form the strong foundation of India’s health security in the future and will help in achieving the goal of a developed India.

Non-Communicable Diseases: The Growing Challenge and Solutions

He said that today diabetes, heart diseases and other non-communicable diseases are increasing rapidly. Earlier in Indian lifestyle, health was better due to balanced diet and regular routine, but now due to changing habits the situation has changed. The Chief Minister said that experts often focus on treatment and new technologies, but to effectively fight these diseases, it is important to give priority to prevention. For this, running a large scale public awareness campaign is the need of the hour.

Ayushman Bharat: Crores of people got health protection cover

The Chief Minister said that earlier serious illness used to become a financial crisis for the entire family, but now the situation is changing. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, about 55-60 crore people of the country are getting health protection of up to Rs 5 lakh every year. It is one of the largest health schemes in the world.

Apart from this, through Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, those people who were left out of Ayushman Bharat have also been included. Teachers, Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, ANMs and mid-day meal workers are also getting its benefits now.

Rapid expansion of health infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh

The Chief Minister said that a decade ago there were only 17 government medical colleges in the state, which have now increased to 81. Besides, 2 AIIMS are also operational. ICU facilities, establishment of cath labs, expansion of private super specialty hospitals and modernization of old medical colleges have been done in every district. Tele-consultation, tele-ICU and virtual ICU services have also been added from major institutions of Lucknow, due to which patients from remote areas are getting better treatment.

Without awareness the spread of diseases will not stop

The Chief Minister clearly said that merely increasing hospitals and doctors will not solve the problem. If people’s lifestyle is not improved and awareness is not increased, it will be difficult to control diseases. He told that daily use of smartphone for 4 to 6 hours and lack of physical activities is giving rise to new diseases.

Role of doctors: Responsibility of spreading awareness in the society

The Chief Minister said that the huge crowd of patients in government hospitals is a big challenge. Institutions like KGMU, AIIMS and SGPGI receive thousands of patients every day, making it difficult to give adequate time to each patient. In such a situation, he appealed to the doctors to play an important role in spreading awareness in the society, because the words of doctors have more impact on people.

Adulterated foods and bad routine become a big problem

The Chief Minister said that the biggest problem today is bad eating habits and adulterated food items. He said that in the campaign conducted before Diwali, thousands of quintals of adulterated khova and paneer were caught, which raises serious questions on food safety. He appealed to the people to have a balanced diet, sleep and wake up on time and adopt a healthy daily routine.

Importance of yoga and traditional medicine

Praising the efforts of the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said that Yoga and traditional medical systems have received recognition at the global level. World Yoga Day celebrated on 21st June is a great example of this, which inspires people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Only healthy citizens will make a strong nation.

The Chief Minister said that the government is working at both treatment and awareness levels so that health services can become affordable and accessible. Under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, facilities like bypass surgery, angiography and angioplasty are being provided to the common people. He said that healthy citizens are the foundation of a healthy society and strong nation.

Atal Medical University: New center of medical education

The Chief Minister said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University is the first university in the state, to which all the medical colleges are attached. He said that it is a matter of pride to organize a cardiology conference on such a large scale here and it reflects the new picture of changing India.
