Lucknow. Due to the efforts of Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh, agriculture is changing rapidly. Along with making farmers self-reliant, increase in their income is also being ensured through modern technology and innovation. The government has introduced drone technology in farming, under which 40-50 percent subsidy is being given to Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and agriculture graduates to purchase drones.
New revolution in farming with drones and modern technology
Yogi government is continuously making efforts to modernize farming. The use of drones is helping in crop monitoring, pesticide spraying and increasing production. Along with this, emphasis is being laid on reducing costs and increasing production by giving grants to farmers on agricultural equipment, seeds and mini kits.
Farmers become self-reliant through accelerated maize development program
The government’s accelerated maize development program is proving beneficial for the farmers. Under this scheme, farmers are being given up to 90 percent subsidy on improved seeds, due to which their costs are being reduced considerably. By joining this program, farmers are moving towards new crops along with traditional farming.
Farmers’ income doubled from sweet corn cultivation
In Brahmapur block of Gorakhpur district, farmers have achieved great success by cultivating sweet corn for the first time. Farmers associated with Aaqib Javed’s Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) cultivated sweet corn in an area of 8 acres in the Kharif season. These farmers include Shriram, Bhimsen, Vijendra and Rajesh Pratap, who conducted this experiment in villages Purnaha and Sugaha.
Cost reduced with 90% grant, better production
Due to getting 90 percent subsidy on seeds from the government, the cost per acre remained only between Rs 8 to 10 thousand. Agriculture department officials gave complete information about crop management to the farmers, which resulted in better production. The crop was ready in about two and a half months and an average production of 40 quintals per acre was obtained.
Better prices in the local market, farmers got big benefits
The produced sweet corn was sold in the local market through FPO at the rate of Rs 30 per kg. This gave farmers an income of Rs 1 to 1.25 lakh per acre, which is much more than traditional paddy cultivation.

FPO operator Aaqib Javed says that due to the government’s cooperation and accelerated maize development program, the income of farmers has doubled. He expressed hope that seeing this success, other farmers will also move towards innovation based farming like sweet corn.
