A provision of Rs 65,926 crore has been made for the energy sector in the UP Budget 2026-27. Electricity supply has been ensured for 19 hours in rural areas. Transmission capacity has been increased by 82% to 32,500 MW. Agricultural feeders and sub-stations have also expanded.

Lucknow. While presenting the budget for the financial year 2026-27, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that the Yogi government is continuously working to make Uttar Pradesh the leading state of the country in the field of energy production, better power supply and green energy. A provision of Rs 65,926 crore has been made in the budget for various schemes of the Energy Department. This amount is about 8 percent more than the year 2025-26, reflecting the state’s commitment to increasing energy efficiency.

Electricity supply improvement in rural areas: 19 to 24 hours supply ensured

According to the government, there has been a significant improvement in the average power supply till December 2025.

  • 19 hours power supply has been ensured in rural areas.
  • Electricity is being provided 21 hours 49 minutes at tehsil headquarters.
  • 24 hours electricity is being provided at the district headquarters.

These figures show that significant progress has been made in strengthening the power system in the state.

2,41,088 private tube well connections were released between April 1, 2022 and December 2025. Under the general scheme, 1,66,135 tube well connections have been provided since 2017-18. Under the separate feeder construction scheme for agricultural purposes, 4,048 agricultural feeders have been constructed against the target of 4,680. On these feeders, farmers are being given 10 hours of power supply, which has been said to be the highest in the country.

Substation and Transformer Expansion: 82% increase in transmission capacity

Large scale work has been done to strengthen the energy infrastructure. From 1st April 2022 to 2025-26:

  • Construction and capacity increase of 2,410 new 33/11 KV substations.
  • Installation of 20,924 new distribution transformers
  • Capacity increase of 85,684 transformers

With this, the transmission capacity of the state has been increased from 17,890 MW in the year 2016-17 to 32,500 MW in the year 2025-26. This represents an increase of 82 percent and is considered a major achievement of the state in the energy sector.
