Union Minister of State Nityananda Rai, introduced the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, April 1, which declares Amaravati as the only capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, will be amended to add the phrase ‘Amaravati shall be the new capital.’
During the discussion, the Congress party has expressed its support for granting statutory status to Amaravati.
