The spices used daily in the kitchen are not limited to just enhancing the taste of food, but are also considered to be a treasure of health. Nowadays, people’s interest towards Ayurveda is increasing rapidly in the country, due to which now even household spices are being seen as medicines. Patanjali Ayurveda claims that spices like turmeric, cinnamon, clove and black pepper can help in strengthening the immunity of the body and protecting it from many serious diseases.

It has been told in Baba Ramdev’s book ‘The Science of Ayurveda’ that if these spices are used properly, they can be helpful in detoxifying the body, improving the digestive system, maintaining hormonal balance and reducing mental problems. This is the reason that nowadays people have started adopting these simple spices present in their kitchen as a natural cure.

black pepper

Black pepper is considered very effective for cough and cold. If someone is coughing, chewing 2-3 black peppercorns can provide relief. It not only helps in reducing cough but also improves the quality of sleep. In case of problems like hives, it is advisable to make black pepper powder and take it with hot ghee, which can provide relief from allergies and itching in the body. Apart from this, taking the mixture prepared by mixing black pepper, almonds and sugar candy with milk or water also provides relief from cough.

Cardamom

Cardamom has been said to be beneficial in mouth ulcers and urinary problems. If there are blisters in the mouth, then eating cardamom powder mixed with honey reduces the internal swelling and the blisters start healing gradually. At the same time, if there is less urination or burning sensation, then taking cardamom powder with sugar candy can provide relief. It also cools the body and improves digestion.

Cinnamon is considered a powerful antiseptic and detoxifying spice. Its consumption improves digestion and helps in removing toxic elements from the body. To get relief from cold and cough, drinking a decoction made by mixing cinnamon, ginger and cloves is considered beneficial. This decoction keeps the body warm, increases energy and helps in balancing Vata and Kapha dosha as per Ayurveda.

Cumin is considered very beneficial for the digestive system. If someone has the problem of diarrhea, then drinking cumin powder mixed with curd or lassi can provide relief. Apart from this, boiling 5-7 grams of cumin seeds in 400 ml water and when the water reduces to half, consuming it provides relief in many intestinal problems. Consuming it regularly strengthens digestion.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds are considered very beneficial for diabetic patients. Soaking it in water overnight and eating it with water in the morning on an empty stomach helps in controlling blood sugar. Apart from this, by mixing fenugreek seeds, dry ginger and turmeric in equal quantity and consuming it regularly, some Ayurvedic defects of the body can be balanced.

Celery

Along with improving digestion, celery is also said to be useful in reducing the habit of alcohol. Consuming celery by boiling it in water strengthens the liver and gradually the desire to drink alcohol can also reduce. It is recommended to drink it daily before meals.

Turmeric

Turmeric is known for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It is not only beneficial for the skin, but also helps in removing bad breath, teeth and gum problems. Massaging teeth with turmeric, salt and mustard oil can provide relief from problems like pyorrhea. Apart from this, it is also helpful in reducing cough, cold, body pain and swelling.

Garlic
