Under- Construction Gate Near Mahalaxmi Temple Collapses, Injuring Over 15 Workers

Nagpur News: A portion of an under-construction gate on the Khaparkheda to Koradi Temple route in Nagpur collapsed on Saturday, injuring around 15 workers. The incident took place during construction work on the Mahalaxmi Temple premises managed by the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA).

Emergency services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and revenue department officials, rushed to the site after reports that labourers might be trapped under the rubble. Rescue efforts began immediately, with machinery deployed to clear the debris.

Inspector Krupal Mule from the 5th Battalion of the NDRF said the structure had fully collapsed by the time his team arrived. “We conducted thorough physical and canine searches but did not find anyone trapped. All workers had been rescued,” he added. He mentioned that vibrations caused by construction equipment might have triggered the sudden collapse, leaving a debris pile approximately four to five feet tall.

Nagpur District Magistrate Dr Vipin Itankar confirmed that the collapse happened while reinforced cement concrete (RCC) was being poured for the slab. “About 15 to 16 workers sustained minor injuries and have been admitted to hospitals for treatment. NDRF, police and revenue officials are present, and the debris is being removed using machinery,” he said.

Sanjay Meena, Metropolitan Commissioner of NMRDA, said a detailed investigation would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the accident. “The injured workers are stable, and fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. The contractors responsible for the construction were working under NMRDA supervision,” he added.
