‘Unbearable pain’: South Indian actress Shakeela spends Rs 3 lakh on neck surgery, blames phone addiction

Actor Shakeela recently posted a video on her YouTube channel sharing that she underwent neck surgery costing Rs 3 lakh. She revealed facing serious health complications following her to mobile gaming and watching videos on her phone. The actor shared a video, wherein she also resorted to self-trolling. She advised parents to keep children away from phones and also urged fans to be careful.

 

 

Shakeela undergoes neck surgery due to phone addiction

Shakeela posted a vlog on her YouTube channel from Medway Hospital in Chennai, and after being brought home. In the vlog, she shared that Dr Balamurugan had performed her neck surgery. The actor was reportedly advised to wear a neck collar till she’s recovered. Addressing the camera, she said that she would often spend long hours lying on her side playing games and watching videos, which led to neck pain. Consequently, she revealed that she had to undergo surgery to correct the damage, which cost her Rs 3 lakh.

Shakila shared that she required assistance post-surgery to even get out of bed or eat. She shared, “A phone is a very useful object, but do not use it more than necessary.” She went on to add, “I used to lie sideways in my bed and play games on my phone for up to four hours straight. I would only get up to have some tea or coffee. After drinking my tea, I’d come back and resume the same game. Following that, I would spend hours watching reels on YouTube and Instagram. Improper posture and excessive use of my phone affected the main veins in my neck, eventually leading me to the operating table.”

Shakeela also warned parents against giving mobile phones to children. She shared, “Use the phone only for essential things. Avoid watching unnecessary videos, even mine, and watch only useful ones. Otherwise, you will lose ₹3 lakh and have to endure unbearable pain as well.”

Shakeela also revealed more details about her issue, claiming that a titanium screw had to be used after a discharge from her neck caused pain.

For the unversed C Shakeela Begum was born in Chennai, while her mother, Chand Beegam, hails from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, and her father, Chandbasha, was from Tamil Nadu. Shakeela dropped out of school before completing her secondary education. Later, due to financial constraints, she took up modelling and adult films.

In 1995, she debuted with the Tamil film Playgirls, alongside Silk Smitha. However, it was her 2000 Malayalam film Kinnara Thumbikal that boosted her career. Shakeela’s adult films were also dubbed into all Indian languages at one point and even into Nepalese, Chinese, and Sinhala.

In 2002, Shakeela announced that she would no longer do adult films and began accepting mainstream roles. She has starred with Mohanlal in the 2007 Malayalam action-comedy film Chotta Mumbai, and with Mahesh Babu in 2003 Telugu action-crime film Nijam. She has also reportedly starred with Vijay in a film.
