Controversial Statement on Rape: Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan crossed the limit of words while giving a strong reaction to the controversial statement of Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya.
Hasan said that pornographic material on the internet increases testosterone in youth, due to which they are unable to control their sexual desires. As a result, women or girls nearby get attacked.
Actually, Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya had made objectionable remarks on Dalit, tribal and OBC women. He had said that “most rapes occur in these communities, because there are alleged instructions in the scriptures that sexual intercourse with such women leads to pilgrimage.”
ST Hasan told alcohol as the reason behind rape
On the controversial statement of Phool Singh Baraiya, Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan said, ‘I think the internet is a big reason behind this. Pornography on the internet increases testosterone in young men, due to which they are unable to control their sexual desires. During this time, whenever any woman or girl comes near them, she gets raped. The main reason behind this is alcohol. After drinking alcohol, a man forgets to differentiate between his wife and daughter. We have seen many examples of this. No one wants to talk about it, we need strict laws to punish rapists.
What controversial statement did Phool Singh Baraiya give?
Phool Singh Baraiya is Congress MLA from Bhander (SC) seat in Madhya Pradesh Assembly. He was earlier associated with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and had also been an MLA in 1998. He often remains in the headlines due to his controversial statements. He once compared SC-ST MLAs to dogs. After that, he has again given such a controversial statement that everyone was shocked, at present there are demands for an apology for the controversial statement. Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya had said, ‘If a beautiful girl is seen then the mind can get distracted and incidents like rape can happen.’ He further claimed that SC, ST and OBC communities do not have beautiful girls, hence such incidents happen less with them.
Rape gives ‘the fruit of pilgrimage’ – Baraiya
Phool Singh Baraiya further said, ‘It is written in religious texts that if a person is unable to go on pilgrimage, then having sexual intercourse with SC (Scheduled Caste) women gives the fruits of pilgrimage. He also said that those who are unable to go on pilgrimage, they stay at home and catch a SC girl at night and have sex with her. He claimed that it is written in the scriptures that if a person is unable to undertake a pilgrimage, then if he has sexual intercourse with a woman from Dalit-Tribal or OBC category, he will get the same ‘Teertha Phal’. Baraiya also said very objectionable things while linking the crimes against small girls with this so-called religious instruction.
