UK’s Prince Andrew arrested: Who are other European top shots stuck in Epstein files web

New Delhi: Recently, the US Justice Department released millions of internal documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein, exposing the late sex offender and financier’s ties to Europe in business, academia, government, and royalty.

Epstein died in 2019 by suicide at Manhattan jail cell, after waiting for trial in a sex trafficking case. On Thursday, ex-Prince Andrew of the UK was taken into custody after his name came up in the Epstein file.

Below is the list of some high-profile names accused of having links with Epstein:

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor

The brother of King Charles, Prince Andrew, was forced to move out of his mansion. He was stripped of his title of prince in October last year. Last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on Andrew to testify before a US congressional committee. A review on allegations that a woman was taken to an address in Windsor in 2010 for sexual purposes is also going on. This month, Buckingham Palace said it would support any police probe against him after emails suggested that he might have shared confidential British trade documents with Epstein.

Crown Princess Mette Marit

The Epstein file suggested correspondence between Norway’s crown princess, Mette-Marit, 52, and Epstein. In 2008, Epstein was found guilty of soliciting prostitution from an underage girl. In 2012, the crown princess had called Epstein “sweetheart” and “very charming”.

Jack Lang

The Epstein Files suggested that former French culture minister Jack Lang had close ties with Epstein. He had thanked Epstein “splendid time” a day earlier. He resigned as resident of the Arab World Institute on February 7after past contacts with Epstein were revealed

Peter Mandelson

The former British envoy to the US is under police probe for possible misconduct in public office. Mails suggested his close friendship with Epstein, which included the leaking of market-sensitive information to the sex offender.

Thorbjoern Jagland

The Norway Police is probing charges against former Prime Minister Thorbjoern Jagland, 75, on suspicion of having information released in the Epstein files. He is suspected to have received gifts, travel and loans in connection with his earlier positions as chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
