Uddhav Thackeray And Raj Thackeray BMC Election 2025 Alliance: There has been a big shock in Mumbai politics after 20 years. Ahead of several municipal corporation elections, including BMC and Nashik, Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS have announced a formal alliance. The most surprising thing in this historic announcement was that Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, who walked on different political paths for decades, appeared on one stage. Both the cousins looked emotional while announcing the alliance at a joint press conference held in Worli. Uddhav warned the Marathi people: “If you get divided now or make any mistake, you will be completely destroyed. Don’t ruin Marathi pride.” Raj said that Maharashtra is bigger than any dispute or fight and hence both of them decided to forget their political differences and come together.
What is the political importance of alliance?
This alliance for the BMC elections not only indicates political strength, but is also being considered a symbol of unity in the Marathi community. However, both the leaders did not give any formula for seat sharing. Raj clearly said that the candidates will be asked to file nomination directly.

Raj also mentioned about the gangs operating in Mumbai and kidnapping of children in the press conference. He clearly said that the Mayor of Mumbai will be Marathi and he will be from Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS alliance. Historical connection of Thackeray family
Uddhav and Raj along with their families paid tribute at the Bal Thackeray memorial in Shivaji Park. Aditya Thackeray, Rashmi Thackeray, Amit Thackeray and Sharmila Thackeray were also present on the occasion. Uddhav said that his family has made sacrifices to include Mumbai in Maharashtra and the responsibility of carrying forward the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray is on both the leaders. Uddhav said, “It is our duty to live together, that is why we have come together. From today onwards no fraudulent attempt will be able to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra.”
Seat-sharing and political equations
According to the alliance, the seats for BMC elections are distributed as follows:
- Shiv Sena (UBT): 145–150 seats
- MNS: 65–70 seats
- NCP (SP): 10–12 seats
However, this decision has also drawn sharp reaction from rival Shiv Sena leaders. Leader Raju Waghmare alleged that both the leaders betrayed the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray. He said, “Marathi people will never forget this. When it comes to seat sharing, the workers will be nervous and angry.”
Is this alliance the beginning of a rift in the Grand Alliance?
The Congress has decided not to join the alliance, but leaders say the union of the Thackeray brothers exposes the possibility of political disunity within the grand alliance. Congress leader Atul Londhe said, “Does the meeting of Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar mean that there is a rift in the Grand Alliance?”

Upcoming elections and voting
Elections have been announced in 29 municipal corporations including BMC, PMC and PCMC. Voting will take place on January 15 and counting of votes will take place on January 16. The ruling Mahayuti had dominated 286 municipalities in the last elections. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called it a trailer for the upcoming municipal elections.
