Uber CEO confirms India data center with Adani

New Delhi: Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has announced that the company will work with the Adani Group to set up Uber’s first data center in India. The move marks a fresh push by the ride-hailing giant to deepen its technology base in the country, which it now sees as a major innovation hub.

Khosrowshahi shared the update after meeting Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani during his India visit. In a post on X, he said, “As India fast emerges as a leading innovation hub for Uber, we are setting up our first data center in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy our tech.”

The upcoming data center is expected to be ready later this year, according to Khosrowshahi. He said the project would help Uber build at scale, “from India, for the world.”

India is not being seen only as a market for rides, food delivery memories, airport runs and late-night cab panic. It is being positioned as a place where Uber can test and deploy technology for wider global use. Data centers have become a key part of this shift, especially with AI, cloud systems, mapping, payments, mobility and real-time platforms needing more local compute support.

Uber CEO meets Indian ministers during five-day visit

Khosrowshahi is on a five-day visit to India and is scheduled to meet several Union and state ministers. Earlier on Tuesday, he met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He said they had a “rich conversation about Uber’s strategic investment roadmap for India” and how platforms like Uber can support India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 goal.

He also met Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for a discussion on improving the air travel experience through better last-mile connectivity. This could matter for airports, where passengers often depend on app-based cabs after landing. Anyone who has waited outside a busy terminal with luggage and 3 percent phone battery will know why this matters.

Naidu said in a post on X, “Alongside improving passenger convenience, I also encouraged the delegation to further strengthen sustainable mobility initiatives in line with our broader vision of making urban transit cleaner and efficient.”

India becomes a bigger tech base for Uber

The Uber-Adani data center plan comes at a time when India’s digital infrastructure story is growing fast. For Uber, local data and technology capacity could help improve product testing, deployment and scale.

The company has not shared technical details of the data center yet.
