UAE visa expired? Leave the tension, the government has made a big announcement

There is a very reassuring news for the expatriates working and settling in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). If you went out of UAE for some reason and during this time your residency visa has expired, then there is no need to panic now. The UAE government has announced a temporary but very important relief by relaxing the rules. Now expatriate citizens can re-enter UAE without any new permit.

‘Golden Chance’ is till 31st March

According to the new guidelines issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), this special exemption will be applicable only till March 31, 2026. An important condition to avail the benefit of this rule is that your visa should have expired on or after 28 February 2026. This temporary arrangement applies to all those foreign migrants who were outside the country and whose visas expired during this period. On returning within this stipulated time limit, no person will have to go through the hassle of applying for a fresh entry permit. After the deadline of March 31, normal immigration rules will be re-implemented, so it is important to avail this facility in time.

The tension of visa fine is over

The biggest fear is of heavy fine if the visa expires. For a citizen, paying ‘overstay’ fine while abroad can be financially back-breaking. But UAE administration has also removed this problem. Under this new policy, no penalty will be charged on visas that expire while staying outside the country. This simply means that if you move to UAE before March 31, 2026, you can reinstate your residency status without paying any additional penalty.

What documents will be required?

If you are preparing for your return under this scheme, then it is mandatory to take care of some important paperwork. You will have to carry your old and expired ‘Emirates ID’ with you at the airlines check-in counter at the airport. If for some reason the ID is not there, then the digital copy of your Residence Visa will also be valid. Once you have successfully entered the UAE border, you will then have to complete the process of regularizing and renewing your residence status with the immigration authorities.
