Australia Squad, U19 World Cup: Australia has announced the team for next year’s Under-19 World Cup. In the team of 15 players, there are two players whose roots are connected to India. Meaning those who are of Indian origin. One of them is Sharma ji’s son Aryan Sharma and the name of the other player is John James. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has played cricket against both of them and has also scored a century while facing them. Under-19 World Cup 2026 is to be organized in January-February next year on the grounds of Namibia and Zimbabwe. This ICC tournament will be played between 15 January and 6 February.
Performance award to Aryan Sharma and John James
Aryan Sharma is a left-handed batsman and spinner. Whereas John James is a right-arm pace all-rounder. The debut of both these players took place in September this year in the ODI and Test series played by the Indian Under-19 team on the tour of Australia. These players have now received the reward for their excellent performance in that series against India Under-19 and then in the National Under-19 Championship in the form of tickets for the Under-19 World Cup.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored a century against him
In September this year, when Aryan Sharma and John James made their debut against India Under-19, not in the ODI series, but in the very first match of the Test series, Vaibhav Suryavanshi faced them and scored a century. Vaibhav had scored 113 runs in 86 balls in the first innings of the first match of the Red Ball Series played on the Australia tour, which included 9 fours and 8 sixes.
When Aryan fulfilled the promise he made to Virat
Aryan Sharma came into limelight as soon as he made his debut for Australia Under 19 team against India Under 19. The reason behind this was not his performance but his promise to Virat Kohli. He had told Virat Kohli in the year 2018 that he is his inspiration and in 2025 he will see him playing cricket for Australia.
Players of Sri Lankan and Chinese origin also in Australian team
However, it is not only players of Indian origin who have been selected in Australia’s Under-19 World Cup team. In fact, two cricketers of Sri Lankan origin – Naden Cooray and Nitish Samuel and one cricketer of Chinese origin – Alex Lee – have been selected. Head coach Tim Nilsson said that the team has been selected considering the overall balance and combination. This is a strong team and can perform better in the Under 19 World Cup.
Australia has been placed in Group A of the Under-19 World Cup 2026, in which apart from it, there will be teams of Japan, Ireland and Sri Lanka. The team will leave for Namibia in the first week of January, where it will play warm-up matches between 9 and 14 January.
