New Delhi Launches U Special Buses: Delhi Transport Corporation has launched a new U-Special Bus Service for students. For the first time, live radio facility has also been provided. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the buses on Thursday.
New Delhi Launches U Special Buses: The journey is going to be easier for students of Delhi University and nearby colleges. Delhi Transport Corporation has inaugurated 25 new U-Special Buses. These buses will connect directly to the northern campus, southern campus, JNU, IIT Delhi and major residential areas. On Thursday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the buses from the northern campus of Delhi University. During this, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh was also present.
U-special bus service started in 1971
The routes of these buses have been made in such a way that students can easily reach the college. Direct connectivity from Narela to Patel Chest, Najafgarh to Aurobindo College, Purvanchal Hostel to Ramjas College and Rithala Metro to Aditi College will be available. The schedule has also been prepared according to the time period of colleges. The history of U-Special Bus Service started in 1971, the U-Special Bus Service. By the 1990s, 400 buses started running on the roads of the capital. After 2009, the number gradually began to decrease and in 2020, the Kovid-19 was completely closed due to epidemic. Now this service has been resumed after five years.

Live radio service for the first time in buses
Trying to connect youth with public buses DTC aims not to depend on private vehicles and use public transport. This will reduce the crowd on the roads and will also benefit the environment. U-Special Services is considered to be a student friendly and important step. For the first time in the buses, live radio channels have also been provided in live radio Delhi-NCR in these buses. With this, students will not only be able to travel easily, but will also be able to get entertainment and information. Information about government messages and social campaigns will also be shared through this channel. Passengers will also get the facility to connect directly through QR code and WhatsApp.
Electric buses in Delhi are the leading city in the country where most electric buses are running. A total of 2,949 electric buses are running on the roads by mid -2025. Of these, 2,210 buses are near DTC and 739 buses are operated under the cluster scheme.
