Tyrique George Earns Everton Move: Permanent Chelsea Forward Signs Four-Year Deal

Tyrique George has completed a permanent transfer to Everton and believes supporters have not yet seen the best of the forward. The England Under-21 international joined on Monday after a loan spell from Chelsea last season and has signed a four-year contract at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton confirmed the switch for an undisclosed fee, with reports indicating the total cost could reach 24m including add-ons. George’s previous loan included an option to buy, but the club let that clause lapse while agreeing a revised price with Chelsea over recent weeks.

George is ending a 12-year journey with Chelsea, having progressed through the academy before this move. The 20-year-old made 11 appearances under David Moyes during the second half of the 2025-26 season, though there was only one league start as George largely featured from the bench.

The forward stressed that the focus is now on regular contributions for Everton rather than looking back at Chelsea. George told the club’s website: “There is a lot more to come from me and with the manager, the coaches and my teammates, I know I’m in a great place to show it.”

George also highlighted the demands at his new permanent club and the importance of timing around pre-season preparations. George added: “Everton is an environment that demands hard work from everyone, and I will give everything. To be in for the start of pre-season is something I was keen on. Now I’m really excited to get going again.”

George’s arrival is part of a wider rebuild, following the permanent capture of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough. Everton also announced on Monday that Merlin Rohl’s transfer from Freiburg has been fully processed after a season-long loan during the 2025-26 campaign.

Rohl featured 17 times in all competitions last season and scored once, during a 3-1 Premier League defeat to Sunderland. Those deals leave Moyes with greater depth in forward and midfield positions as preparations continue for the new domestic campaign and potential future European qualification pushes.

David Moyes welcomed George’s return and praised the attitude shown during the loan spell. Moyes said: “We’re pleased to bring Tyrique back on a permanent basis. He made a positive impression during his loan spell with us last season and settled into the group quickly. He’s still young and there’s plenty of development ahead of him, but we believe he’s got the attitude and the ability to keep improving. We’re looking forward to working with him again and helping him fulfil his potential.”

Everton missed out on European football last season and will hope the new signings strengthen that pursuit. Moyes’ side starts the 2026-27 Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on August 22, with George expected to compete for more minutes after agreeing the long-term deal.
