The Philadelphia 76ers have faced a challenging season, with Tyrese Maxey being the latest player to be ruled out. Maxey will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a finger tendon injury.
This setback follows his absence since March 3, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. He joins Joel Embiid and Paul George on the sidelines.

Maxey’s absence is a significant blow to the team, which had high hopes after a strong previous season. The Sixers finished last year with a record of 47-35 but have struggled this season due to injuries among key players. They currently hold a disappointing record of 23-53 and will not make it to the playoffs for the first time since Embiid’s rookie year in 2016-17.
Despite his injury, Maxey had an impressive season before being sidelined. He averaged a career-high of 26.3 points per game, along with 6.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds over 52 games. His defensive prowess was also notable, ranking fifth in the NBA with an average of 1.75 steals per game among players who participated in at least 50 games.
Last summer, Maxey secured a five-year contract extension worth $204 million with Philadelphia following his breakout performance in the previous season. During that time, he earned his first All-Star selection and was named Most Improved Player in the league. Despite wearing a splint during practice sessions in hopes of returning, he will now focus on recovery.
The Sixers’ core trio-Embiid, Maxey, and George-only managed to play together in 15 games this season due to various injuries. Embiid has been out since February because of knee issues, while George has been sidelined since early March with groin and knee problems.
This series of injuries has severely impacted Philadelphia’s championship aspirations this year. As they look towards next season, recovering their key players will be crucial for regaining their competitive edge.
