New Delhi: TVS has patented a cafe racer design in India, with the Ronin as the basis. The design was launched in late 2024 as a custom-built TVS Factory cafe racer. There are obviously things that set it apart from the production-spec Ronin. Even though it might make it to production ultimately, it does show us where TVS’s creativity might be, as it is based on the Ronin Factory cafe racer.
As opposed to most patent stories, in which designs take a long time to materialise, this one stands out. Filed in 2024, the patent appears to be of the TVS Ronin Factory cafe racer and was followed shortly by TVS coming up with the concept of this.
TVS places the Ronin as ‘Unscripted’, as in the bike doesn’t fall in conformity to any of the segments. Revitalising the idea, the brand continues to experiment with spin-offs that are based on this platform, and the cafe racer concept is an example of this. It does stand out from a visual point of view, and if brought into production, it could be quite a distinctive offering in the class.

In order to make it a cafe racer, the Ronin comes with several hardware alterations. It comes with a low-set clip-on handlebars, a tighter rake angle, and rear-set, slightly elevated foot pegs, all contributing to a sportier riding triangle. It still retains the 14-litre tank but is paired with a bikini fairing and a wind deflector that flows neatly into the tank.
The seat now is a single-piece with pillion removed for cowl, with the rear fender mixing sharply into the tail-light, giving the motorcycle a distinctive design. One more distinction is the exhaust end-can that looks much different from the production-spec Ronin.
Apart from the exhaust end-can, the engine looks unchanged, which suggests it is more of an aesthetic exercise rather than a comprehensive mechanical rework. The 225cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine still makes 20.4 bhp and 19.9 Nm of torque and is paired with a five-speed gearbox.
