Tamil nadu election raly: A very tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening at Veluchamipuram in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. The election rally of TVK leader Vijay killed 40 people due to the crowd. The accident proved to be shocking in political and social circles across the state. Karur District Collector Thangvelu and ADGP Davidson Dewasiravatham shared the details of the entire incident in a conversation with the media. According to officials, Vijay came late during the rally. Due to this, supporters and people were waiting for a long time in the sun since noon. Many people fainted due to hard sunlight, hunger and thirst and died in the crowd.
How was the place selected for the meeting?
Collector Thangvellu said that instead of the rally, it was already decided with TVK. The permission was first sought near the Light House, but the place was small. Eventually, Veluchamipuram was elected and received official permission. He also made it clear that the government did not interfere in changing the place.

How true is the allegations of stone pelting?
ADGP Davidson Dewasiravatham said that no stone pelting has been confirmed by the police till now. This information is not true. He also said that there was no negligence in security. More than 500 policemen were deployed at Vijay’s rally, while in other rallies, a small number of policemen are deployed.
Why was ambulance arranged?
The ADGP said that keeping in mind the security, the police themselves had called for an ambulance, so that treatment could be given immediately in any emergency. This was not the demand of any organization or TV workers.
