A police inspector in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda used sleazy language during a phone call with a woman complainant and told her he was tempted to touch her while she was sleeping.
The woman recorded the conversation and submitted it to the Superintendent of Police, demanding action against the inspector.
According to reports, a woman residing in the Kalinjar police station area approached the SP with evidence. In the complaint, she alleged, “My in-laws beat me up. I am fed up with their torture. After this, I filed an FIR against my in-laws at Kalinjar police station. Inspector Pawan Pandey was handling this case. A few days ago, the inspector took me to my in-laws’ house in his car, but started making obscene remarks on the way.”
The victim said that the inspector first spoke inappropriately to her on the way. He obtained her mobile number and started calling her repeatedly, whenever he pleased. Eventually, she recorded one of their conversations.
The audio later went viral on social media. In the recording, the inspector is heard saying, “When you were sleeping in the car, your face looked very innocent. I felt like touching you. I felt like lovingly caressing your hair. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I didn’t have the courage to touch you. I was worried you might feel upset. I don’t know how your husband failed to understand you-you are very innocent.”
The SP has since taken disciplinary action against the inspector.
The accused investigating officer has been sent to the police line to ensure impartiality, said SP.
