Trump tariff row: PM Modi speaks to Putin, invites Russian President to visit India

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday talked with Russian President Vladimir Putin about multiple issues, including the developments on the Ukraine issue, bilateral agenda and strategic partnership deals between both countries. PM Modi also invited President Putin for an Indian visit. The talk comes just days after US President Donald Trump announced an additional 50 per cent tariff on India for continuing to buy Russian oil despite the Ukraine crisis.

“Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend, President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year,” PM Modi posted on the social media platform X.
