Trump halts strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure for 10 more days with Washington-Tehran talks ‘going very well’

New Delhi: In a major relief to the rest of the world, United States President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for possible strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure by ten more days. He said that Tehran requested for the pause and added that negotiations are going in a positive way so far. Earlier, Trump had announced a pause in all strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days.

Trump’s latest announcement

Trump took to Truth Social and announced, “As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8pm, Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well.”

The earlier pause

On March 23, Trump said the US would pause all strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. He wrote in a Truth Social post, “I am please to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”

US proposal to Iran

According to reports, the US government has sent to Tehran a 15-point plan to end the war. The plan’s proposals include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, restrictions on the nuclear programme and a month-long ceasefire to allow discussion. The 15-point plan has been reportedly sent to Iran via Pakistan. In it, the US has proposed the end of uranium enrichment on Iranian soil and handing over of enriched material, which Israel and the US presume could be developed into a nuclear bomb.

However, Iran has reportedly conveyed to Washington that the 15-point proposal it sent to Teheran to end the conflict in West Asia is unfair and one-sided. The proposal was reviewed by Iranian leaders on March 25, and they are reportedly not keen to accept the proposal.
