The US has once again given a strong stance against India and gave a strong shock. President Donald Trump has ordered 25% additional tariffs on goods from India to America. This will reach 50% total tariff. This decision has come into effect from August 7, and the additional fee will start after 21 days. This step is expected to cause huge losses to large export areas such as textile, leather and marine products of India. America wants India to stop buying oil from Russia. But the Government of India has reacted sharply to this, saying that this decision is “very regrettable”.
Europe is Russia’s biggest buyer
On one hand, America and Europe talk about banning Russia, but on the other hand they themselves are buying a lot of energy from there. According to data from the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), the European Union (EU) is at the top with a 37% stake in buying pipeline gas from Russia in 2025. Not only this, Europe is also 50% in the purchase of liquid natural gas (LNG) from Russia. This clearly shows that Europe is dependent on Russian energy despite the Ukraine war. Now that he has reduced the purchase of crude oil slightly, in which his share is only 6%, he has started raising finger on countries like India. This attitude clearly shows double parameters.
India stopped inflation, is this a crime?
India increased the pace of buying oil from Russia after the Ukraine War. By 2022, India used to take very little oil from Russia, but by 2025, Russia’s stake reached 38% in India’s total oil imports. India took this step thoughtfully, which was named ‘Oil Defense’ strategy. After the Iran-Israel war, the objective of the policy was that India should be saved from inflation when oil prices rise in the global market. By purchasing cheap oil from Russia, India kept the prices of petrol and diesel under control and gave great relief to the common people. All this is also completely legal, because Russia does not have strict international restrictions like Venezuela or Iran. Nevertheless, America’s attitude shows that when India protects the interests of its country, it is targeted.
Nobody says anything to China
If Russia’s biggest energy buyer is someone, then it is China. In 2025, China bought 47% crude oil and 29% pipeline gas from Russia. It is clear that China has become a big financial friend for Russia. Nevertheless, America or western countries do not impose tariffs on China, as have been loaded on India. A big reason for this double attitude is that India openly talks about its interests, and western countries do not like this attitude. As long as India silently obeyed them, everything is fine. But as soon as India adopts its independent foreign policy, it is targeted.
Real face exposed
This decision of America is not only an economic attack against India, but also exposes the difference of words and actions of Western countries. On the one hand, Europe itself buys a lot of energy from Russia, on the other hand he advises India not to do so. This is the extent of shamelessness! This step of India is to protect the interests of our country and is completely justified according to the global rules. Experts say that, western countries should first look into their fall, then a finger should be raised on a responsible country like India.
