Chennai: A comment made by actor-director R. Parthiban about actress Trisha at an awards ceremony has gone viral on social media, leading to an indirect condemnation from actor Trisha and a subsequent expression of regret from Parthiban through an audio statement.
The incident occurred at the Galatta Awards ceremony when Parthiban was asked about Trisha, who played the character Kundavai in the movie Ponniyin Selvan. Responding to the question, Parthiban said, “It would be better if Kundavai is kept indoors now. Not everything can be talked about openly. Not all poems can be enjoyed. Some poems cannot be read openly.”

The comment came amid ongoing social media debates surrounding actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay, including discussions about his family life, political activities, participation in Trisha’s wedding, and his statement about divorce. Some viewed Parthiban’s remark as an indirect response to these current rumours.
Trisha’s Response
Following the viral spread of Parthiban’s comment, Trisha posted an indirect condemnation on her X (formerly Twitter) page. She wrote, “I was informed by the organisers of a recent event that my name and picture were included at the last minute at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant. A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder. Crude words without knowledge say more about the speaker than the person they’re aimed at.”

Parthiban’s Audio Statement
Shortly after Trisha’s post, actor Parthiban responded by releasing an audio statement expressing regret for his comment. In his tweet accompanying the audio, he wrote, “Whatever happened was wrong. There is no other way but to regret it!”
In the audio message, Parthiban explained, “Sometimes some mistakes are made unintentionally. While I was answering 20 questions asked at the Galatta Awards ceremony without thinking at all, when Trisha came on screen, I was thinking about what to say, and the slogan ‘Kundavai, Kundavai’ came out. Just as a joke, the audience clapped their hands saying, ‘Keep Kundavai at home so that there is no problem.’ Mostly Vijay fans were in the audience.”
He continued, “After coming down, Rangaraj Pandey said that I should have avoided mentioning Kundavai. I immediately said that it should not be done. But through a video taken by someone, it has been released on social media and has caused grief to some people. Realizing this, I sincerely express my regret. I always do not want problems to escalate.”
The exchange has become a major talking point on social media, with many discussing the implications of Parthiban’s remark and his subsequent apology.
