Triple Crown Dream Alive as Beijing Open Semifinals Take Shape

The top seeds stood tall in the Women’s Singles draw at the Capital Securities Beijing Open 2026, with all four highest-ranked players advancing to the semifinals after commanding quarterfinal victories.

Top seed Chao Yi Wang produced one of the most dominant performances of the day, brushing aside qualifier Seina Shima 11-2, 11-4 on Championship Court. Shima had arrived in the quarterfinals after upsetting the No. 7 seed but found no answer to Wang’s relentless attack.

Joining Wang in the last four is home favourite Yufei Long, who came through a tighter contest against Pei-Chuan Kao. Long edged a competitive encounter 11-7, 12-10 to keep her title hopes alive in front of the Beijing crowd.

In the bottom half of the draw, Australia’s Sahra Dennehy continued her impressive run with an emphatic 11-6, 11-4 victory over sixth seed Aiko Yoshitomi. China’s Lingwei Kong completed the semifinal lineup after surviving an early scare against eighth seed Mihae Kwon. Kong saved the opening game 15-13 before taking control to close out the match 11-4.

The semifinals now promise two intriguing contests. Wang and Long will meet for the second time on Asian soil in a rematch of last December’s Hangzhou semifinal, where Wang prevailed 11-8, 11-7. Long will look to reverse that result with the backing of local supporters.

The second semifinal will see Dennehy face Kong for the first time. The Australian second seed and the Chinese fourth seed have never previously met, adding another layer of intrigue to the encounter.

Beyond a place in the final, there is even more at stake. Wang and Dennehy remain in contention for Triple Crowns in Beijing after progressing in both doubles disciplines. Should they reach the singles final, it would set up a showdown between two players chasing a clean sweep across all events.

The men’s draw, meanwhile, delivered more surprises. Australia’s Harrison Brown continued his giant-killing run by defeating seventh seed Nasa Hatakeyama 11-5, 13-11 after previously eliminating fourth seed Luc Pham. Brown will now take on top seed Zane Ford in the semifinals, while third seed Hong Kit Wong faces second seed Hien Truong in the other last-four clash.
